Follow-Up Ultrasound

We had our follow-up ultrasound yesterday morning (and I REALLY hope to get pictures up today!) to re-check the baby’s growth, as well as measurements from major organs.

I am thrilled to say that baby looks great!

The tech spent a ton of time checking out all the organs and was by far the BEST tech I think we’ve ever had. She gladly went in to detail about everything she was seeing and did her best to try to get baby to move its arm (that it was determined to keep in front of its face!) She got some decent 3D pictures (despite the arm!) as well.

She deemed the heart, “beautiful” and let me just sit and watch those 4 amazing chambers pump away!

Kidneys and bladder are both a perfect size (my midwife has continually mentioned that after baby arrives, we will be making sure s/he is peeing enough and these organs are working like they should).

The tech determined baby to be about 2.5lbs at this point (I’m not a firm believer in ultrasound measurements when it comes to weight and whatnot) and said this was “a normal size”. I just looked up weights of baby at 26 weeks and got anything from “1.7lbs” to “2lbs”….2.5lbs is normal..ha! Big babies :) Love em! :-)

Anywho, we didn’t even have to meet with the OB this time (we’re assuming that was a good thing!) and will have my regular appt in a couple weeks, including glucose and iron testing.

And there was much peace restored….

Well, 3 months ago, we initiated some changes: we moved Benjamin in a big boy bed and put the boys in the same room. We did it early on in my pregnancy so that they would totally be adjusted by the time baby arrived. It didn’t start off well. There was a LOT of “playing” (taking clothes out of dresser drawers, dresser diving, wrestling, taking Keaton’s slats off his bed and sword fighting with them, etc…) In the midst of this, Benjamin decided he didn’t even want to sleep on his toddler bed we bought him and resorted to sleeping on the floor, which, lead Keaton to do the same – two perfectly good beds and neither were being used.

So we moved Benjamin’s bed into the baby’s room and whenever the chaos was too much, I’d send Keaton to sleep in there.

Well, it had become a daily occurrence of Keaton going to sleep in the baby’s room — for bedtime AND naptime. We finally decided to just move Keaton in there for good. Basically, he’ll understand better to leave the baby alone than Benjamin would – and Keaton, while it takes him awhile to go to sleep, SLEEPS. Seriously – we have played piano, rang the door bell, talked to him and he just sleeps, sleeps, sleeps. So, I think he’ll do better sharing with the baby than Benjamin would — we’ll see in a couple months ;-)

So, last night was the first night of this new NEW arrangement. It went perfect — and they even SLEPT IN!!!! Keaton woke up at 7 and Benjamin at about 720!!! I’m not banking on that being a regular happening, but I won’t argue with it!

Naps have started and so far so good, except Keaton just came out asking if he could play now…not so much! ;-) I gave him some books and told him to look at them and then go to sleep and NOT come out asking for more…we’ll see.

But I peeked in on Benjamin – totally passed out asleep!

I have a feeling we’ll all be a bit happier with the new NEW arrangement! :)

In other news:

  • We have our follow-up ultrasound in the morning to re-check baby’s growth.
  • I’m 26ish weeks (I lost track around week 18) ;-)
  • We still don’t know gender, but are gladly accepting guesses
  • We have a fantastic (to us) boy name, but can’t agree on a girl name (Zach is pretty much agreeing to any name I say at this point, but after 10 minutes, I hate the name…ha!)

And I think that’s it… Will update after the ultrasound tomorrow :)

Lost in Translation…

And this time it didn’t involve the children, but myself, Zach and some benedryl ;-)

Zach was telling me about the online final he took last night. In the midst of our conversation, Benjamin came in and asked, “Where Keaton go?”

Zach’s next sentence was, “Sometimes I can’t understand him…it’s like there are grammatical errors or something…”

I’m looking at him like, “Are you KIDDING me?!”

He continues to talk, and I quickly realize he’s speaking about his professor…and not our 21 month old…

I was glad we straightened that one out… ;-)

Only took 21 months!

But it’s official!

I’m officially working towards my certification as a birth doula!

The team at CBI has been amazing to work with so far and I’m really looking forward to all I have to do over the next 3 years (because it HAS to be done by then!) to complete my certification!

So….need a doula? :-)

Some things I must remember

This is one of those posts just so I can look back in 4 months…a year…whatever and have a good laugh :)

  1. Keaton has been taking soccer classes and he LOVES it (though, he’s pretty much the one, where the rest of the class is seated around the coach and he’s at the other end of the field spinning in circles…but he LOVES it!) However, I think it’s going to his head. Yesterday, he was kicking a ball around the living room, no more than a couple inches in front of himself, but with every kick, “GREAT GOAL, KEATON!!!! GREAT GOAL, KEATON!!!!” …for about 10 minutes. I let it go on that long because I was laughing so hard – then I set up a goal for him ;-)
  2. I’m addicted to Freecycle (seriously, if you haven’t joined your local freecycle – do it!) Well, not too much is given away on our side of town (that we need/want), but yesterday, I scored big time. Less than a mile away, a lady had a wooden kitchen set (that needed a bit of TLC in the form of glue) I got there, it’s blue (NOT PINK!!!! YEH) and OH so cute!!! It’s small, but, we don’t have a lot of room. Well, I parked so the boys couldn’t see it, got it in the back of the van and headed home. Once they were down for naps, I set it up in the kitchen. They woke up and seriously for about 15 minutes, all I heard from the boys was, “Thank you, mama! Oh, I’m so excited! Thank you thank you thank you!” Hysterical! As Zach would say, “Atleast they’re appreciative!” (And they really are!)
  3. I don’t typically have really weird dreams while pregnant. With Keaton, I remember one where I looked down and my stomach was like a window and I could see Keaton swimming laps. I don’t really remember any with Benjamin. This time, the weirdest is that about 8 or 9 times, I’ve had the same dream that this baby is a boy and weighs 9lbs2oz and is 22inches long — every.single.time. Well, last night trumped the 9 pounder! I had my baby, it was a boy and he was massive (I’m talking, weighed as much as the boys do and was just as tall — HUGE kid…for a newborn) ;-) Well, my midwife went to weigh him and as soon as they laid him down, he turned into a pelican and walked away! Soooo weird.
